Decide how you want the meal to work
A waterfront restaurant meal in Rawai and buying seafood from a market seller are different transactions. If you buy from one seller and ask another business to cook it, establish both arrangements before purchasing. Ask which items the kitchen accepts and whether it can prepare them as you want. If you prefer a simpler meal with one bill and a predictable seat, choose a restaurant menu instead. Neither format is automatically cheaper, fresher or better for every group.
Ask the weight and total before agreeing
Fish, prawns, crab and squid can be sold in different portions and by different units. Clarify whether the price is per item, per kilogram or per smaller weight, and ask for the total for the actual selection. Establish whether cleaning changes the charge and what will be returned to the table. For a group, start with a modest quantity plus rice or vegetables, then add more if needed. A display full of large specimens does not require a large order to make the meal worthwhile.
Choose the preparation as carefully as the seafood
Steamed fish, grilled prawns and stir-fried squid create different meals, even before sauces and garnishes are added. Tell the cook what style you want and ask how the cooking charge is calculated. Clarify separate charges for rice, vegetables, sauces and drinks. If ingredient requirements matter, discuss them with the kitchen that will cook the food rather than relying on the fish seller’s answer. A market purchase and a cooking service need one clear shared understanding to avoid surprises at the table.
For self-catering, make the kitchen the destination
Before buying seafood for the room, check that your accommodation allows and equips the cooking you intend to do. Compare the quantity with fridge space and the time before the meal, and bring the purchase directly back rather than carrying it through sightseeing. A supermarket seafood counter may fit an ordinary grocery trip better than a separate market outing.
