A better accommodation comparison

Compare what is confirmed, keep unknowns visible, and use the same criteria for every option.

Agree on your non-negotiables

Write down the things an accommodation must provide before comparing prices. These might include a separate bedroom, a usable desk, step-free access or a clear cancellation arrangement. Keep the list short enough that it describes genuine requirements. Give each shortlisted option one of three statuses for each requirement: confirmed, does not fit, or unknown. Unknown is an instruction to ask a question; it should not quietly become a positive assumption because the photographs look attractive.

Check the physical details

Request the exact entrance location, layout and bed configuration. Ask where cooling is available, what kitchen equipment is supplied and how laundry is handled. If you need an internet connection for work, explain the type of use and request recent evidence relevant to the room. Verify access needs with precise questions about steps, lifts, doors and bathrooms. For noise or nearby works, ask what the provider currently knows about your dates. Neither a neighbourhood label nor an old review can guarantee the conditions of a future stay.

Normalize the money

Ask every provider to quote the same dates, number of nights and guest details. Record accommodation, mandatory fees, utilities, optional services and deposit separately. Note whether any amount is estimated and how it is calculated. Record payment deadlines, accepted methods, cancellation rules and the deposit return process. Comparing a tax-inclusive total with a headline nightly price can be misleading, so resolve those differences before deciding which is cheaper. Keep written answers with the quote rather than relying on a recollection of a call.

Decide with an evidence trail

For your final two options, inspect the practical route to groceries and your main activity. Review who will handle arrival and who can help during the stay. If an important answer changes, ask for the revised terms in writing before payment. A lower price need not win if it leaves a requirement unresolved. Conversely, an attractive extra should not distract from a basic mismatch. The aim is a decision you can explain: this address supports our routine, these services are confirmed, and this is the complete cost we understand. Save the completed comparison with your booking confirmation, so you have a useful reference if you need to clarify an arrangement later.
